Stepping out of my fashion comfort zone | #1

Happy New Year!

❤️ Before I get into the post I’d just like to say a massive thank-you to everyone who has read my posts throughout 2017, I absolutely adore blogging so seeing people actually enjoying and engaging with my posts is so rewarding and makes it worth every minute I spend writing and taking photos. Thank-you ❤️

My first post of 2018 is going to be all about my pact to be a little more daring with my outfits this year. I’ve decided to start a fashion series in which I will feature one outfit per post (per month), an outfit that I maybe wouldn’t usually wear for various reasons. 2018 is the year of stepping out of my comfort zone in every aspect of my life including fashion and style so here goes… starting with this outfit! (Outfit details at the bottom)

Ok so reason number 1 this outfit is a little risqué for me is that I think I am quite possibly committing a number of fashion faux pas’ here. Wearing navy blue AND black is supposedly a no-no but I felt the leather jacket was an easy little throw on jacket for this outfit, also it was perfect for the sunny but brisk day we were having. (Practicality over the fear that someone may laugh at my poorly matched colours… yes plz). Also colour clashing mustard and red? I’m not sure whether this is against fashion rules as I am certainly NOT a fashion blogger but regardless it injected a pop of colour, I liked it, so I went with it!

Another reason this outfit is slightly out of my comfort zone is the baring of the midriff. I’m totally up for the odd crop top on nights out but day to day I’d never usually opt to have my tum on show and I would have instead paired these trousers with a top that could be tucked in or even a body but I’m a 21 year old gal and I felt like exposing a bit of skin on a Sunday so there you have it!

This next reason is a massive one, I’m going to try very hard in 2018 to break away from the idea that in order for an outfit to be nice it has to be flattering. This outfit for someone like me with big hips and thighs isn’t the best IF you are wanting a flattering outfit. The trousers are wide leg which means they offer no hiding place for my larger legs (but they’d probably be perfect for those who are smaller and wanting to create the illusion of curves as they come in at the waist and fall free). But for someone like me, who may not want to accentuate them quite as much, they offer little to no help. Paring this with a loose fitting top that makes my waist look wider than it is is definitely not something I’d have normally chosen to do… HOWEVER, I’ve spoke quite a bit on my blog recently about body-positivity and learning to love the things about myself that I’ve spent my life hating and I know that in the past I’d have taken one look in the mirror, zoned in on my hips and took them straight off; but today I wore this outfit and I genuinely didn’t think twice about it, to be honest I even felt quite okay about being on the curvier side of the scale for once, and THAT is my ultimate goal for 2018 and one of my the key reasons to starting this series.

It can be an amazing feeling when you step out of your comfort zone and realise how much you love something that you’ve been avoiding all this time! I’m doing the same this year, wearing more interesting and adventurous clothes, ignoring ‘fashion rules’ and just doing what I want with my wardrobe. I love how happy and confident you look in these photos, absolutely beautiful 🙂
